November ’25: Rope Stories

November 2025

Could you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a 36 year-old Brit living in Copenhagen and I have a 4 year-old daughter. I spend my time mothering, doing a lot of yoga, walking and listening to live music. I’ve moved around quite a bit, as I was a researcher for many years, and so finding community is really important to me. Although I’m relatively new to it, the rope community has been so welcoming and full of diverse and interesting people.

When did you first encounter rope?

I first encountered rope unintentionally. I was visiting Erotic World with my then partner and we were browsing, taking it all in and just enjoying ourselves with no particular goal. We happened to walk past the ‘Ropes & Riggers’ stand and saw someone being tied. It was a kind of ‘woah’ moment for both of us and we both immediately wanted to see more and know more. I’d never seen anything like it before. Luckily, there was another demonstration that evening so we sat and watched our first kinbaku show together, totally entranced, curious and a bit turned on! It was incredible. We went straight back to the shop and bought our first ropes.

What’s your favourite/funniest/best memory of tying or being tied?

It’s hard to pick one favourite memory, but the one that immediately comes to mind is a wax workshop last year. We didn’t know many knots or patterns at the time, but something about combining the hot wax with simple ties was really powerful, and I had one of my best rope experiences. I’d definitely like to try that again!

What’s something you’d tell people just getting started or might be curious about rope?

I’d say “don’t be intimidated by all the complex ties and positions you see”! For me, this is still a challenge as I want to speed-up the learning process. But that’s just not something you can (or should) do when learning rope. There is so much you can do with a few basic knots and some floorplay – in fact I enjoy this often more than being suspended.

I’d also encourage people to remember that it’s all supposed to be fun! So, if something isn’t working for you then that’s ok. Find something that does and don’t compare yourself to others.

Would you like to tell us about any hopes, dreams or goals you have for your rope life? Anything you are really looking forward to?

Something I’m really looking forward to is a residential workshop where I can completely surrender to rope for a weekend. I would also love to tie with some new people and meet more people in the community.

But in the longer term, I’d love to geek out even more and learn everything about how ropes can be used to aid people’s bodies, mental health, and kinky lives.
